I. Product
The ancient food preparation item is a must for every kitchen. Traditionally used for medicinal purposes, the pestle is the tool, the mortar - the bowl. They perform at their best when used together. Used for crushing whole spices, blending fresh herbs, or bruising garlic and can be used with oils to create guacamole, pesto and dressings.Often seen or mentioned in cookbooks and magazines or on television the mortar and pestle is a big part of everyday use in food preparation. Made from durable and rugged granite, this mortar and pestle has been shaped and carved into a smooth yet, robust accessory that will last many lifetimes.

III. Use
Season the mortar before first use: grind raw rice inside the bowl until the rice turns gray; empty and repeat until the rice no longer turns gray; rinse with water and scrub with a brush.
Always place the molcajete on top of a cloth to avoid scratching the surface of your table or countertop.
Avoid drastic changes in temperature.

IV.Care
Hand-wash with running water, dish soap and a brush. Dry thoroughly.

This recipe calls for preparing the guacamole in a molcajete, a mortar and pestle carved from volcanic rock. One of the world's oldest kitchen tools, it was used by the Aztecs in Mexico for grinding corn into flour.
